Evening out with friends

Do you know why I cry (more like taking a shower with tears) whenever I see/read any sad movies/stories/news?  It’s cos I hv this intense (some call it stupid) tendency to imagine myself in the situation seen.  It can be a good thing, cos then I’m able to empathise completely.  However, too much of this, can be depressing.  Sometimes, it can even go to the extend of me falling into an illusionary pit of self-pity, and then evolves into degradation of the mind's ability to rationalise the "real" situation, and finally leading to the production of silly words/actions.  I call this the “lapse from Gnapness”.  Fortunately, it only happened once - many moons ago, and I am – gladly - back to my sane/strong self again.  :)   Now I still cry over other ppls misfortune.  But I won’t allow myself to get too personal or emotional over it.  It’s better that way, I guess.

And now the bright side of life….

I don’t know.  Somehow, as you get older, u begin to see frens as gems, rather than gems as frens.  Ok – that’s jes a figure of speech.  I never did like gemstones in the 1st place anyway.  You walk thru the garden of life, and there's just some flowers that pleases you so much, you wish they will never die (this expression inspired by a poem someone wrote).  Well, the good news is, friends are these flowers of life, and they live much longer than flowers do.  Haha.  (I can sense someone asking – what abt family.  Well, it’s that tree you always go back to, that branches out beautifully with your proper nurturing).

Just last weekend, T and I met up with old buddies KK and CC bcos they’re now working outcountry, and we last met b4 CNY2006.  We had dinner, and xchanged some quality baloney - as usual, with good frens, I felt like 1 of the guys despite being the only gal among us.  It always feels great when u r beyond gender cat-ing.  ....  Then we went to see the Yamaha Asian Beat Band Competition - Png Finals in BJ complex.  BoundByHonor, SC, Ky and Plasmabstract were there already.  BoundByHonor chasing me to come, and Plasmabstract helping me with the video recording of Mike’s (Michael Lee of Uglymen) solo acoustic guitar demo performance, just in case I was late, which I was. (Mike’s also 1 of d judges for the competition that evening).  I felt so surrounded by wonderful friends.  That nite, I recd an sms fr CC saying “I enjoyed fr the moment I stepped into the restaurant.  Friendship forever!”.  It was exactly my thought too.

I realise, all my lasting buddies, have somethings in common and they are…. Gila-ness, sometimes demonstrate childlike characteristics, generous, humble, super kind, simpletons and cincai ppl.  All this despite being high in the corporate ladder or successful in their musical/teaching careers or simply being talented.  Don’t make me mention names cos it will be so yuk-ma.  Just know who you are enough lah.  I’m just so so honoured to have friends like you all.  :)

And…If u weren't there at BJ to catch the competition last Sun, and wanna know some, here’s the clip I uploaded to Utube of Mike’s Acoustic guitar demo performance (dashing performance!!  If i saw this perf 20yrs ago, i sure wanna learn guitar one! Serious!), and the winning band - Ocean Of Fire (fun cool) fr the competition that evening.  For a professional review of the competition, go here.

I have problem finding a most appropriate title for this post.  Anyone with better suggestions, drop it below.  :)

T was there with us on Thurs night at Heritage with CC Kuan, BK, YS. The glass broken is with my old colleagues in Redbox on Wed... quite a party! The shock and vibration from excitement broke the glass...not the voice.

Such a lively one week in Penang, live band (kuai cha hou bands) ... glad to get to witness the excellent guitaring and drumming though the voice breaking part was pretty amusing... is it the voice or the mike and then we found out one can't shout for long before something has to give.

Good KTV session where CC manage to complete the Leo Ku's "keng kor kum kok" a howling of 10 minutes medley.. then a KTV session at Redbox with 2 glasses broken from all the excitement.

Lastly, stuck in the amazing traffic jam on Friday from 3.30pm set-off from Sheraton Hotel, I have to drive back, go to Gurney Plaza shopping, go to gym, drink a beer, take a nap and then drive off at 9 pm.

What a week... a memorable one... tks to all the friends.

The funny one at restaurant when BK is asking the waiter if there is any dish that is not nice to eat " boh ho cheak" after I ask what is good to eat. Of course the waitress has to say no. When the waitress recommend tau fu, the respond is the standard crude answer yeah.. we love tau fu, all kinds of tau fu ...

Guest: We don't necessarily have to share bad times with someone to know if they'll stand by our sides. Real friends are also those we don't need to think twice asking them for help, bcos we know they will, based on our history together (good times or bad times).

In fact, in short, something like what Smurf described below.
CC Kuan @ Thu 23-11-06 04:04PM
Friendship is so beautiful...
guest @ Thu 23-11-06 03:45PM
I can only remember those whom I shared my bad time with cuz i know they'll stand by my side no matter what.
smurf @ Thu 23-11-06 03:14PM
well, friends are important in our life especially those who are sincere and kind towards us...those who can be happy for us as we succeed in life....and lastly friends in need are surely true friends....:)
