Dilemma

I’ve just been invited to perform at a charity event.  Years ago, I’d have jumped at the chance to perform.  The applause, the cheers, the whistles… The pats on the back when you get off stage.  Nice. I’m quite a shy person – the kind who blushes for little or no reason at all.  But somehow, when I’m on stage, I forget who I am because it's so easy to fall into the music - be it singing or playing music.  Performing on stage, really gives you that euphoria not easily paralleled, unless maybe in competitive sports (the hoos and the haas when you spike or smash, and the opponent(s) fall “diving pook gai” style… priceless!).

Alas… that was dulu.  And this is sekarang.   I mean, who'd wanna watch an oily faced mother of 2 on stage (except maybe for a good laugh!).   Won’t we rather watch an SYT or YMH perform!  Sor sor tay.

But… still so tempting leh…  Get up there and enjoy myself.  Believe me, singing in the shower or Redbox is NOTHING compared to singing on stage.  For those who have performed on stage before, will know exactly what I mean.

Let me see…. 5 reasons I shouldn’t do it:

  • No practice for past 8yrs.  Voice range shrank to barely over 1 octave. :P
  • Chuan - can’t finish 1 sentence in one breath. Must be the 2 child births.
  • Poor memory – can’t even remember what I wore y’day, how to remember lyrics of a whole damp song!
  • No showmanship – nowadays, you’re not just expected to sing.  You have to dance, look pretty, and do some acrobatic stunts on stage.
  • No costume – I only have aunty clothes.  Period.

Wow!  Now that I’ve rationalised this, I’m in a dilemma no more.  No way I’m gonna get up there.  I’ll just donate some cash!  Bottom line for the organisers.  ;)

I know I know ... it's hard and tiring and a bit shyish after so many years ... but that doesn't restrict you from not going up the stage and show 'em what you got :) be yourself and do what you want to do. No one is on your way except you yourself. Have faith.

Your "kam sau man" will never fail to entertain... you can do the song "put tor put him" with a guitar as what Sammi does in the movie... like real wearing Titus watch ! Is this over ?

Go go go....
Add oil! Add oil! Add oil!

Think the other way around... See: IF you go, you'd HAVE to practice... Muaaahahaaa... Another one giving pressure ;)

I'm half their age. So... :P
Anyway, vocals don improve with age. They improve with practice. Trust me. :)

I think your vocals will improve as you age (Diana Ross, Lionel Richie etc..)
Just think that you're doing this for charity is very noble. Enjoy & have fun while you're at it :D

one reason you should do it:

your inspiration & passion in music :)

and this alone is more than enuf for you to be unreasonable (waramashit 5 reasons) & step up on stage again :)
