If you use a Credit card, take note (if you don’t already know this)… you DON'T HAVE TO PAY Annual Fees.

We all know that certain banks, I can’t mention which ones (for obvious reasons) offers FREE FOR LIFE credit card services.  Ie no annual fees for life.

But for some other “more exclusive” banks, they still charge you the annual fees.  But don’t just keep quiet and pay.  Why should you pay them for using their cards, when everytime you spend, these banks get paid by Visa/Master and the merchants maybe?!!  In fact, these banks should be the ones offering you perks to opt using their cards!

Well, for the past 6yrs, I have been calling my bank (sorry must omit bank names) before the annual fees were due, to request for waivers – and I haven’t been paying annual fees since.

Just today, I recd my cc statement and my ears froze when I saw the RM160 debited to my bill.  Shucks!  I forgot to call the CC customer service before my annual fees were due!  Anyway, I immediately picked up the phone and called 1300 ## ####, said I “wanted to request for waiver and that it’s actually already billed.”  The CS person says, “No problem, maam.  You’ll see it credited back to your account in the next statement.”  Not even a single question asked.  Didn’t even say somethin like he/she have to check or submit for approval!  It’s like, if you keep quiet – you PAY.  If you ask, you get (waiver).

So there.  If you already know this.  Good for you.  You save some money every year.  If you didn’t know this before..  go make the call.  No harm trying.   Nothing to lose.  Some hard-earned money to save.  :)

The condition for the bank to waiver the annual fee, every month you must spend >$800 on your card.

well, it all depends if you're a 'big' customer or not. If you do, they'll waive you on the spot when you call, else they'll tell you that they'll have to submit the request for approval....this happened to my housemates before....
later when you treaten to cancel the card and they beg you to continue using by waiving your annual fee....;D
some banks are so 'lor lei chin'....

That is what i always do, 'cept that this C bank wants a written request. Hey, there are banks out there that gives free for life cards so, I can just take my business elsewhere if they don't want to waive it.
They won't want to lose your business.

I think this is the tactic the bank use to gain loyalty from their customers. Once you are charged and when you called them, they immediately apologize, promise a refund and waive the fee for the following year. Impress?!
Nonetheless, I heard from sambadi, going forward all bank is going to waive the cc annual fee for life:-)
